This is hull #1 of B&B Yacht Designs acclaimed Ocracoke 20, featured in Wooden Boat magazine DESIGNS, January/February 2013, Issue #230. Described in Wooden Boat as having striking curves, spectacular flare, efficient hull, runs flat and fast.
Construction in Bayboro, NC. Closely supervised and documented locally by the designer, Graham Byrnes of B&B Yacht Designs. The boat was professionally rigged by Mobile East Marine, Alliance, NC.
The hull is light, strong, and fast. Shallow modified V bottom, sharp entry, dead rise at transom 13 degrees. Runs flat, the design incorporates down sloping running flats at the chines which create the smooth spray free and level ride. No trim tabs needed and there is no chine walking on hard turns at speeds.
Construction consists of 1/2 inch ply bottom, modified egg crate construction, cold molded sides (Ashcroft method, two layers 3/16 inch diagonal ply planking, staggered seams). The hull is epoxy fiberglass inside and out with 24 oz biaxial glass. All components are epoxy encapsulated and glassed structural fir and ply.
Self-draining scuppers aft. Casting platform at bow and stern. There are compartments port and starboard aft for future bait tanks. Hull color pastel blue.
Steering is hydraulic. Custom T-Top with Stamoid cover by Tarheel Towers. Bright finished cherry rails. Custom gunwale covers with bungee straps cover custom cherry bumper rails from stem to stern, including forward and aft casting platforms.
The boat was custom designed for the owner and builder to match a previously purchased new Honda 90. The boat was built locally, launched, and very lightly used locally in the Bay River area. Always kept on a covered lift at the builder and owner's dock or seasonally stored on site indoors. The motor was professionally serviced annually by Mobile East Marine, Alliance, NC.
