Overview
About this vessel
This is a brand new Broadblue 346 catamaran in partial build at Hayling Island in Hampshire, awaiting completion during 2025. The boat is adapted for mastless motor operation as a solar electric trawler, representing an almost fossil fuel free cruising solution.
The Broadblue 346 is small enough to make a passage through the French canals to the Mediterranean, yet robust enough to carry a Category A RCD certificate, all with 2m headroom throughout. The catamaran is easily handled for families and those who prefer to be passengers.
Propulsion is provided by twin ePropulsion 6kW pod motors, powered by six 48V ePropulsion E163 LiFePO propulsion batteries totalling 50kWh, delivering a cruising speed of 5 to 6.5 knots. An additional 12kWh house battery bank powers 12V house circuitry, 230V AC circuitry, and recharges two solar electric dinghy tenders. Solar generation comprises 4000Wp nominal on a large GRP bimini.
Typical operation focuses on coastal hops of around 40 nautical miles per day, which would typically require little or no shore power recharging. For longer passage making, twin 48V petrol generators and a 20 square metre kite sail provide supplemental propulsive power.
Investors and buyers have the opportunity for significant input into the final finish and specifications during the build completion. Once launched, the boat will likely be registered in either Gibraltar or the Channel Islands and transferred to the Western Mediterranean in time for the 2026 summer season, subject to preferences.
