About NAN
Discover "NAN", a historic classic motor yacht designed by the renowned American naval architect Ed Monk Sr. as Plan No. 1. This prestigious vessel, a unique one-of-a-kind yacht, served Ed Monk and his family for many years as a home and architectural office. "NAN" is a multi-awarded yacht, winning first place in the International Cruisers Race in 1946 and receiving further placements through 1956, earning recognition from the Classic Yacht Association from 2000 to 2005. Owned in America until 2006, "NAN" was subsequently transported by deck cargo to Germany, where it has since turned heads in every harbour and already played a leading role in two German television documentaries (ARD and 3Sat, 2020 and 2021).
Upon stepping aboard "NAN", the extraordinary craftsmanship and care with which it was built and maintained by its previous owners on both sides of the Atlantic are immediately apparent. The boat-building tradition of the Monk family, which for generations crafted wooden ships, is evident in the use of the highest quality materials, which characterize the excellent condition of "NAN" to this day. Over the years, the vessel has been continuously restored, upgraded, and maintained at reputable shipyards, preserving its nearly original splendour. The entire interior remains in original condition. Comprehensive interior renovations were carried out in 2009 and 2017, while exterior restorations took place in 2009, 2017, and most recently in 2021, totalling over 300,000 €.
Layout
"NAN" features a remarkable galley, larger than typically found in yachts, a stylish bathroom with bathtub, two cabins, an elegant saloon, and a comfortable aft deck inviting relaxation in the open air.
The owner's cabin is located amidships on the port side and is distinguished by a custom-made dresser and cabinet with fine woodwork. A queen-size bed with bedside table completes this elegant cabin. The guest cabin is located in the aft section with two single beds, a built-in dresser, and a spacious wardrobe. A ladder leads from there to the aft deck, shaded by a Bimini and offering space for 2–4 chairs.
The saloon/living area is characterized by plenty of light and a warm ambience. The large windows invite views of the water and the high-gloss polished wood in the interior radiates comfort. The bathroom features an original cast-iron bathtub.
Galley
The galley is spacious with ample storage. Beautiful, with original cast-iron sink and high-gloss polished wooden worktops. Original Dickinson Adriatic oil stove with original stainless-steel chimney (fully functional; the owner suggests that it be relined with firebrick and overhauled from the inside). Two refrigerators are installed.
Known Required Work
Salon requires new carpeting. Cleaning of the freshwater tank is recommended. Some bronze and brass fittings, particularly around the helm, need polishing due to corrosion. Original bathtub slightly dull (can be restored). Engine room could use new paint. Buffet top could use overhaul/re-sealing.
