Yanira is a magnificent 1953 Bjarne Aas-designed 12 metre Cruiser-Racer, seamlessly combining timeless elegance with proven offshore performance. Developed following the International 12 Metre Rule, she was built primarily of mahogany and oak and sports a full keel consistent with classic 12-metre designs.
Yanira is a very fast cruiser-racer with an extensive record of 28 wins since 1984, including seven Copa del Rey—six consecutively—and five editions of the Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona (2010, 2011, 2013, 2024, 2025). She has taken three wins in Les Voiles de Saint Tropez (1999, 2002, 2016), Les Dames in 2015 & 2016, and a win in the IR Cruise General Alfonso XIII Trophy Barcelona, as well as notable placements in other Mediterranean classic yacht events. She is known for consistent performance and admired for her speed and condition.
History: Designed by Bjarne Aas, the renowned Norwegian naval architect specialized in 12-metre class yachts, in 1953, and built and launched in 1954 as Ingeborg for Norwegian owner Ragnar Appelgren. She was sold in 1960 to Spanish industrialist Manuel Giró Minguella, who renamed her Yanira. In the 1970s, ownership transferred to a syndicate of Spanish yacht enthusiasts, continuing Mediterranean cruising and racing. She became sole property of Federico García Planas in 1983, who maintained her as an active competitor in classic regattas. In 2013, she underwent major restoration as part of the Regatta Experience project and has participated regularly in Mediterranean classic yacht regattas since 2014 under current ownership and charter management.
Refit: In 2013, an extensive restoration was launched, including new mast and rigging installation, new sails and chainplates, complete re-caulking and plank replacement according to original build standards, and a new Yamaha engine. Annual maintenance is carried out.
Interior: The cozy yet sporty interior blends traditional elegance with functional design. Entry through the stern leads to the navigation room in the deckhouse, featuring the engine panel and a transverse bulkhead that doubles as a chart table. A full-beam owner's cabin features a private head for enhanced comfort and privacy. A port-side door opens to a second vestibule and ocean companionway amidships. The spacious and airy main saloon features convertible sofas, each incorporating a quarter berth. The adjacent galley occupies the entire forward beam with ample workspace and a second head to port. A forepeak guest cabin is separated from the anchor locker by a curtain for privacy and efficient space use.
