Bjarne Aas 12 metre Class Cruiser-Racer
Overview
About this vessel
Yanira is a magnificent Bjarne Aas-designed 12 metre Cruiser-Racer, seamlessly combining timeless elegance with proven offshore performance. Built in Norway in 1954 and developed following the International 12 Metre Rule, she was constructed primarily of mahogany and oak and sports a full keel consistent with classic 12-metre designs.
Originally built and launched as Ingeborg for Norwegian owner Ragnar Appelgren, she was sold in 1960 to Spanish industrialist Manuel Giró Minguella, who renamed her Yanira. Ownership later transferred to a syndicate of Spanish yacht enthusiasts in the 1970s, continuing Mediterranean cruising and racing. In 1983 she became the sole property of Federico García Planas, who maintained her as an active competitor in classic regattas.
Yanira is a very fast cruiser-racer with an extensive racing record. Since 1984 she has achieved 28 wins, including seven Copa del Rey (six consecutively) and five editions of the Puig Vela Clàssica Barcelona (2010, 2011, 2013, 2024, 2025). She has won three editions of Les Voiles de Saint Tropez (1999, 2002, 2016), Les Dames in 2015 and 2016, and the IR Cruise General Alfonso XIII Trophy Barcelona. She is known for consistent performance and admired for her speed and condition.
In 2013, the owner launched an extensive restoration as part of the Regatta Experience project, including new mast and rigging installation, new sails and chainplates, complete re-caulking and plank replacement according to original build standards, and a new engine. She continues to benefit from annual maintenance and regular participation in Mediterranean classic yacht regattas.
