Overview

About this vessel

Described as "...the world's finest example of wooden boat building today..." at its launch from Rod Stephens.

The beautiful Classic Bailante is designed by Sparkman & Stephens and produced by the Danish boatbuilder Aage Walsted. Frisell selected Aage Walsted to build her on Rod Stephen's powerful recommendation as the best. They then spent a lot of time at the Walsted yard during the production. Having announced that she would be his last boat; on completion he departed in her - more than satisfied - for the Mediterranean.

On arrival there, in short order as he tied up, the man who took his lines, apparently already seduced by KAY, invited Arne to sell her to him. A few discussions later with his possible buyer, who was unwilling himself to get another built, Arne decided to agree to his offer, considerably more then he has paid, expenses and sufficient incentive to go back to Walsted himself.

She has been refitted in 2010 and again very recently. This leaves her in such good shape and to her former glory!

Exterior

She is presented as "strictly a deep water cruising boat." The Classic Bailante is one of the few S&S designs of her time with a full light keel prolonging well aft to an attached rudder, a feature prompted by the owners wish for the ultimate in seagoing handling and comfort.

Her owner today made a full restoration in 2010 at the Nautors Yard in Finland. It was very important to maintain her classy look from 1975. Though they updated all her systems undercover, to meet modern sailing requirements.

Interior

She has a spacious accommodation laid out and constructed of teak and walnut joinery, with neat joints and fits to a great standard of workmanship. Doors and traps are fitted with positive latches and corners are rounded. The woodwork finish is in satin varnish with the overhead painted white. The furniture and upholstery are of high quality. The light input really shows the beauty of the polished interior.

When you step below deck the chart table to the port is spaciously laid out with comfortable seating area and additional storage.

She comes with a galley, sink, gas stove, oven, and a fridge freezer. Followed by the galley comes the saloon with additional seating. There is also a fireplace for colder nights at sea.

The Classic Bailante has a large head with a WC, shower, sink and hanging locker spaces. Except the additional pilot berth spaces there is a large cabin with combined double bed and desktop.
