Overview
About this vessel
WALU is a heavy-duty, ex-commercial aluminium catamaran built by Marlin Broadbill in New South Wales circa 1988. She has a long and proven history, having spent most of her working life commercial fishing out of Shark Bay.
Originally powered by outboards, WALU was professionally lengthened and converted to sterndrive power in 1993/94. She has had one owner since new and was maintained in commercial survey (AMSA 2C & 3C, later under WA DoT) for her entire operational life.
In recent years, the vessel has been out of service and has undergone a major refit, with substantial work completed to bring her back to a solid, operational condition.
Refit Highlights
Deck lifted for full structural inspection. Fuel tanks removed and repaired or replaced as required. Aluminium plating repaired or replaced where necessary. Additional strengthening added to forward sections. Engine rooms fully rewired. Vessel repainted throughout. Re-launched with all systems operational.
