About this vessel
The DK 46 Old School is widely recognised as one of the most successful and competitive IRC cruiser-racers of the modern era. Designed by renowned yacht designer Mark Mills, this high-performance 46-foot racer-cruiser combines regatta-winning speed, offshore capability, and comfortable dual-purpose cruising in one exceptionally refined package.
Purpose-built for competitive IRC racing and offshore performance, Old School recently secured an outstanding 3rd Place in IRC Division 3 in the prestigious Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, further cementing the DK 46's reputation as a proven offshore racing yacht capable of performing at the highest level.
Consistently finishing on the podium at regattas and major offshore events, Old School has built an enviable reputation as one of the standout DK 46 yachts worldwide. Whether contesting inshore regattas, coastal classics, offshore races, or club racing events, this yacht delivers the perfect balance of speed, handling, reliability, and comfort.
Extensively upgraded and professionally optimised, Old School is exceptionally well equipped with multiple dedicated sail inventories tailored for grand prix regatta racing, offshore competition, and club racing programs.
For high-level IRC regatta competition, she carries a near-new inventory of North Sails 3Di working sails, complemented by premium symmetrical spinnakers from North Sails and Doyle Sails, delivering a highly competitive IRC rating of 1.179.
For offshore racing, Old School features a fully optimised offshore sail package including a complete inventory of Evolution Sails jibs, Evolution/DK asymmetric and symmetric pole sails, plus a DK fractional Code Zero, achieving an IRC rating of 1.174. A separate club racing inventory helps preserve the premium regatta and offshore sails in excellent condition.
Why the DK 46 Is So Competitive
According to designer Mark Mills: "The DK46 hull shape is geared to perform through a wide range of conditions, balancing light airs pace with the need for speed in a breeze and reaching. The central design theme is reducing resistance through reduced wetted surface area and wave-making drag, while stability requirements are met by the large ballast package and deep fin."
This advanced hull design, combined with powerful appendages and refined weight distribution, delivers exceptional all-round IRC performance across varying wind strengths and sea states.
Below deck, Old School offers a modern and well-appointed interior, making her equally suited to offshore passages, race weeks, and extended cruising. The result is a true dual-purpose performance yacht with a proven international race record and enduring appeal among serious sailors and competitive owners alike.
